All of the states have been enacting “Jessica’s Laws;” Florida has been in the forefront of enacting “Jessica-type laws,” as well as many other laws concerning sexual offenders and their status. These laws include increased penalties for those accused of sexual offenses with females under various ages, decreasing from the age of 18; and much more rigorous probations including a classification that can have life-long impact on where a person with a sexual offender status can live, as well as requiring a person with sexual offender status to register with law enforcement. This sexual offender registration with local law enforcement requires annual updating and carries severe penalties for non-compliance.
